Tra and Alana make a surprise visit to their Reading for Life participating schools. Tra flew in town to visit the students/classes in the reading program and participate in AFE’s Celebrity Fundraiser Party and Celebrity Golf Tournament May 17 & 18, 2009. The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff was kind enough to allow Tra to visit San Diego for the weekend during OCS workouts knowing how important his program is to students in San Diego.
Alana arrived at Montgomery Elementary a little early to speak to the class about how many books they have read, what she has read since their last visit and answer questions. During her last visit Alana asked the students in her program to write a paragraph to describe how “Tra & Alana’s Reading for Life Literacy Program” had encouraged them to reach their reading goals they set at the beginning of the program.
Alana told them she had a surprise and in walked Tra! The class had made a poem for Alana and Tra from the letters in their names. Tra teased Alana that her name had more letters than his. Tra looked at the board with their scores from the AR (Accelerated Reader Program) and then talked to them about what books they had read and to give a brief synopsis about the book. Tra shared first hand details regarding the accident at the Cowboys temporary training facility that was blown down by strong winds a week earlier. He shared he was not there at the time of the incident.
At Joyner Elementary Mrs. Santana showed Alana the projects they were working on and explained that the students who had on a “Battle for Success” T-shirt had completed their assignments. Alana told them she had a surprise and in walked Tra! The class started yelling out Tra’s name and ran to give him a hug! It was so cool!!!
Tra asked them what books they had read and Mrs. Santana showed him that the class had published their own books. In Ms. Rutlers class Alana spoke to the class about how many books they have read and answered questions … a lot of questions so it was great! Alana told them she had a surprise that would be delivered later and it was a great surprise, so they had no clue that it would be Tra! Alana had to leave to get back to her school so we didn’t get to see Tra surprise the class! But they where surprised to see Tra they even almost knocked him over.
This was the last visit for Tra for this school year, as he will be busy in June training with the team… The Detroit Lions!!!
