Mrs. Kimmel (aka Mrs. Ballinger)
The 5 th Grade Class performed a presentation with a poem “R – E –A-D” for Tra & Alana. They did a great job as they had made posters for each letter and then each kid read their line of the poem:
R – “R” is for reaching for the stars in everything that we do.
E – “E” is for high expectations and knowledge to help us be anything we want to be.
A -“A” is for achieving our goals and anything we set our minds to.
D -“D” is for dreaming big and daring to succeed!
All together that spells read! Thank you Tra and Alana for helping us to meet our reading goals!
This was a very special performance for Tra and Alana as this showed them that this 5 th grade class was working very hard to improve their reading skills & vocabulary. Tra & Alana also read from books they had chosen so it was another great event for “Tra & Alana's Reading for Life literacy program.” Tra & Alana also received a folder with the poems from the students written about the importance of “reading.” Tra gave the class 10 tickets to the Charger vs. Falcons game for their teacher to give out as a reward for their improved reading. Mrs. Kimmel (aka Mrs. Ballinger)
Alana visited the class, without her program teammate… Tra signed with the Dallas Cowboys after Thanksgiving. The class was sad that Tra could not be there. Alana talked to the class about their reading progress to make sure they were still working hard on their reading goals so they went over them, aloud, to read each goal one by one while Mrs. Kimmel was writing them down on the chalkboard.
Alana explained to them how important reading has been for her and how she always challenges herself to improve her reading level as she, as a 6 th grader is already reading at a 9 th grade level. She also handed out candy canes to the class and then they made a very special video clip for Tra to wish him a Merry Christmas!
