"Mother Teresa once said, “loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty,” add to that the literal meaning of poverty and you may begin to fathom the reality of hundreds and thousands of abandoned, abused and neglected children in North and Central America. As long as there are organizations to help shelter, feed and educate these children, Sport Support will find a way to raise money to help bring joy and opportunity to such places."
Sport Support is a two-fold program with its first goal designed to support the fundamental needs of organizations such as orphanages through providing the means to gain self-sufficiency by building homes, schools, as well as to provide the necessary items to facilitate them.
Sport Support’s second goal is to provide a healthy diversion for children who may have suffered atrocities in life such as abandonment, poverty and abuse by bringing futbol (soccer) programs to these same facilities. Being a troubled teen herself, Ronda understands the important role sports played in her life and believes wholeheartedly that every child, no matter his/her economic status, should be given the same opportunity to enjoy and excel in a constructive and challenging pastime.
As a proud mother of two, and lifelong athlete, Ronda enjoys watching and supporting her children in competitive soccer and baseball. In return, Tyler and Connor help her with countless hours devoted to gathering soccer gear at Cleat and Shin Guard drives at local soccer tournaments, picking up donated uniforms and participating in fundraising and charitable work.
In early 2008, Sport Support had officially begun and was able to directly affect more than 150 orphans in Guatemala by providing 11 full sets of uniforms allowing the orphanage to expand its program to more than the older boys. Also, purchases at the local club store, PriceSmart, brought in all the necessary items of need. In addition funds were raised to bring in the government approved educational books and supplies for their nine room school house.
Ronda believes a child is happiest when s/he is fed, sheltered, educated AND can play! She cannot thank you enough for taking the time to learn about Sport Support’s cause. She hopes you will help her bring joy to those who deserve it!
“Although these things [soccer and ping pong] could be considered only fun or frivolous by some as we are an orphanage with huge needs, they have provided for us an avenue of recreation for our kids. They can learn something and get better at it. They can dream and work towards achieving those dreams. They are outlets for our kids against all the tears and heartache they have thus far experienced in life. Your help, support, and donations have been invaluable, and we are so blessed to have known you and been touched by you. Your donation of all the household items like floor cleaner, toilet paper, etc. came at time when we really and truly did not have and did not have the money to get it. THANK YOU! We can only pray and hope that we have had the impact on you all that you have had on us.”
