Ultimate Fighting Championship star Roger “El Matador” Huerta has created a new non-profit program to benefit underprivileged children. The program is entitled “My Fight 4 Kids” and Huerta believes the program can significantly impact the lives of children who, like him, were raised in poverty and broken homes.
Although the program will be wide-based in scope and geography, its first mission is to improve the lives of children supported by the Orfanatorio Emmanuel Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. During Huerta's visit to the orphanage, he was reminded of the hardships these children endure daily and he decided to do everything possible to help feed, clothe and educate them.
For Huerta, seeing children raised in poverty is a painful reminder of his own childhood where he grew up poor and hungry and was forced to endure physical and mental abuse at the hands of his stepmother. Sadly, Huerta wound up living on the streets to escape the violence and drug abuse at home. It was only by the grace of God that Huerta found Maria King, who brought him into her home and treated him like her own son.
Huerta hopes that “My Fight 4 Kids” can help improve the lives of disadvantaged children so that they too can overcome the pain and hardship in their lives. It is Huerta's hope that “My Fight 4 Kids” will significantly improve the lives of children so that they can grow up in peace and happiness.
“My Fight 4 Kids” is an Athletes for Education (AFE) program. AFE is a San Diego based 501(c) (3) non-profit organization.
