KPBS, Athletes for Education & San Diego Chargers Luis Castillo & Kassim Osgood partnered together to host a wonderful Ready To Learn initiative; PBS KIDS RAISING READERS.
The PBS KIDS RAISING READERS program is here and ready to help learning happen at home, at schools, in child care, and in your community! This program creates engaging television and other electronic programs, exciting games, fun community events, playful Web sites, and easy-to-use learning resources for kids, parents, caregivers, and teachers - all with the goal of helping children ages 2 to 8 get ready to read.
Luis Castillo and Kassim Osgood of the San Diego Chargers will be the spokespeople for the PBS KIDS Raising Readers in San Diego. They will appear in the educational television messages, produced by KPBS. In addition to being the spokespeople, Castillo and Osgood will participate in outreach events to promote reading to children and parents.
Funded by the United States Department of Education, the Ready To Learn initiative creates engaging television and other electronic programs, exciting games, playful Web sites, and easy-to-use learning resources for kids, parents, caregivers, and teachers - all with the goal of helping children ages 2 to 8 get ready to read.
All Ready To Learn initiative programs and materials incorporate the latest research about the most effective ways for kids to build reading skills, with a special emphasis on the needs of children from low income families. Ready To Learn initiative programs and materials are developed and distributed by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), PBS, and the Ready to Learn Partnership (RTLP). PBS member public television stations nationwide are important partners in the Ready To Learn initiative.
