INACO.com, with toys and assistance from Athletes for Education, visited Tijuana, Mexico this Christmas Day to provide toys and smiles to children who otherwise would not have received anything this year.
We visited two neighborhoods in Tijuana, starting with Colonia Azteca, to visit a mother of 5 who is going into surgery (as soon as the Free Health Care Dr. returns from vacation). With all the medical costs, she was not going to be able to purchase any presents for her children.
We then went to Colonia El Florido, where we visited a single mother and gave gifts to her daughters, and then went to our host family's house for the big event of the day. We ligned up all the toys on a couch and brought in the selected children and families to pick up their toys.
The families where pre-selected from the neighboring community. We chose families of working parents or single mothers who work hard, but barely get by with their low wages. We chose kind and deserving children who are in school. All of the children who received a toy, would not have received anything for Christmas.
All children where accompanied by their parents to pick up the gifts. Some mothers cried and all where grateful. We even had a couple of fathers show up with their children in order to make sure their children got a toy.
With so many tears and happy and gracious children, this was a very special Christmas.
