death race accomplished

Dear Family and Friends,

I am very proud and happy to report that I have successfully the completed the Tour of the California Alps (Death Ride).

WOW!!! What an incredible experience the Tour of the California Alps (Death Ride) has been. I cannot really put into words how physically exhausting and mentally draining the actual ride was, however I can tell you that it would not have been possible to complete this experience without everyone’s support. THANK YOU!

By completing the Death Ride and with everyone’s help, we were able to raise over $2000 in donations to help benefit the children of Charging Forward. This will allow Greg Camarillo and Charging Forward to successfully start the Florida after school mentoring and tutoring program. In addition, because we raised over $2000, we were also successful in making Greg Camarillo open up his wallet and donate an additional $1500. In total we have raised over $3500 for Charging Forward!!!

It is a great feeling to have completed this experience successfully and for a great cause. Again, this would certainly not have been possible without everyone’s help.

Attached are a few pictures from the ride. The picture with the 3 individuals (from left) is my dad, myself, and my brother in law (Jamie). The other picture is of myself at the top of Carson Pass at 8,700 feet after completing the final climb. Below are some fun facts about the ride that I completed.

  • Start time: 5:20AM
  • Finish Time: 6:45 PM
  • Total Distance ridden on Death Ride: 129.2 miles
  • Total vertical feet climbed: 16,129
  • Total time riding on the bike: 10 hours and 51 minutes
  • Total time it took to finish the ride (including rest stops): 13 hours and 25 minutes
  • Number of water bottles consumed: 16
  • Number of cliff bars eaten: Too many to count and I never want to eat them again!
  • Total calories burned on the ride: 5,173
  • Top Speed: 55.8 mph (the speed limit was 30 mph J )
  • Will I do this again: After the ride I said NO WAY…today I am starting to lean towards signing up again.

Thank you again for everyone’s donations and support. If you did not have a chance to visit the link below please feel free to click on it as it will still be active for another couple of weeks.

Sincerely,

Chris
